About The Position

Building: Crull Elementary School Position: Special Education / Building Para Qualifications: See Posting Hours/Times/Calendar: 8:10 a.m. 3:20 p.m. Effective: Immediately Allocation: 1.122.03.2421.1630 Applicants will demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, social justice and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities QUALIFICATIONS As partners in the instructional process, paraeducator who work in programs supported by Title I/31a funds must meet one of the following requirements: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) Associate’s Degree or 60 semester hours at an institution of higher education, or Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through passage of a formal state or local academic assessment approved by the State Board of Education: Michigan Test for Teacher Certification – Paraeducator Readiness Exam (MTTC) or the original Basic Skills Test (MTTC) A passing score of at least 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing section of the SAT and 530 on the mathematics section in lieu of the Basic Skills Test or Professional Readiness Exam ETS Parapro Assessment – A passing score of 460 is required Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Trained or willing to be trained. Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, squat and lift up to 50 pounds in assisting students, if needed. Title I or Skipped Title I Schools require #1, 2, 3, or 4 above achieved prior to being hired or applicant will be hired as a substitute until achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental characteristics of Special Education Students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate appropriately with the students, parents and staff.
  • Must be willing to provide assistance and instruction in the area of personal hygiene, toileting, health and fitness, and community living.
  • Must be willing to participate in field trips and home visits when necessary.
  • Be available to attend summer or after school in-service services which pertain to meeting the needs of Special Education students.
  • Possess the ability to promote positive self-esteem and encourage academic growth
  • Demonstrate good judgment to provide for the safety of all students and staff
  • Demonstrate the flexibility to respond to changes in assignment in emergency situations as determined by the building principal.
  • Maintain confidentiality in regards to student information as required by FERPA.
  • Assist in carrying out educational plans as prescribed by IEP.
  • Provide physical strength and stamina to meet the needs of Special Education students.
  • Perform other related duties or tasks necessary to insure the success of students and the program.
  • Conducts him/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups.
