About The Position

Special Education Academic Coach II High Tech Elementary Mesa Department: Special Education - Central FLSA Classification: Non-exempt, Classified Full-Time/Part-Time Status: Part-Time, Hourly Regular/Temporary: Regular Framework: Hourly, Step 2 (A-K). Range $22.88 - $27.89. Salary is commensurate with experience. Open: December 3, 2025 Closed: January 28, 2026 Special Education Academic Coach II High Tech High Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September 2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH has evolved into an integrated network of sixteen charter schools serving approximately 6,350 students in grades K-12 across four campuses. HTH seeks a Special Education Academic Coach II , to assist students within the classroom setting, as well as facilitate small group and individual instruction. JOB SUMMARY The Special Education Academic Coach II is responsible for ensuring that students with diverse needs have access to our general education curriculum. Special Education Academic Coaches are essential to maintaining our low student-teacher ratio and ensuring all students get the individualized attention requisite for success.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED and
  • An Associate's degree (or higher) or
  • 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading (or readiness), writing (or readiness), and mathematics (or readiness).
  • Experience in a school/learning environment preferred
  • Experience with ABA strategies preferred and/or
  • Experience with student medical needs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers by working with individual students with mild/moderate behavioral or academic needs on a one-to-one basis
  • 1:1 duties may include but are not limited to
  • possible light toileting and hygiene support
  • attending to student basic health and safety needs
  • implementation of a behavior intervention plan
  • 1:1 support provided in various settings
  • monitoring mild to moderate medical needs
  • Assist with the instruction and supervision of students who may have learning differences
  • Assist with tutorial activities working with an individual or group of students who may have learning differences
  • Monitor student progress and provide input for evaluation using provided templates / resources
  • Establish rapport and meaningful relationships with referred students to assist in improving their behavior, educational performance, and social relationships
  • Perform clerical support duties including typing, completing documents, forms, record, correspondence; which may include note taking for students
