Requirements

  • High School Diploma or HSE diploma.
  • At least 1+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Certified or willing to become certified in professional rescuer CPR/AED.
  • Specialized knowledge of psychiatric nursing care practices, including administering medications.
  • Ability to write reports and keep records accurately.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of behavior modification, self-defense, and restraining techniques.
  • Working knowledge of residents' behavior and ability to anticipate behavior changes.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping duties and assist residents in daily living activities.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic rehabilitation programs and needs of mentally ill client groups.
  • Practical knowledge of teaching techniques such as motivation and behavior modification procedures.
  • Ability to operate routine medical equipment and complete documentation timely.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in Indiana.
  • Ability to maintain and distribute client trust accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure security of residents and maintain orderliness, which may require restraining unruly residents.
  • Escort residents to and from various activity and therapy areas for medical, dental, or legal needs while ensuring maximum security.
  • Assist in the implementation of residents' treatment plans.
  • Monitor patients during meals, classroom time, bathroom time, and in general areas.
  • Observe, report, and record the condition and behavior of residents.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic interventions using de-escalation and approved techniques for behavior management.
  • Assist residents in cleaning and caring for their living areas, clothing, and supplies.
  • Secure doors, search visitors, operate radio systems, issue keys, and escort visitors.
  • Conduct searches of patients' rooms for contraband and ensure patient safety.
  • Provide motivational techniques, counsel, and teach daily living skills as prescribed in treatment plans.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of clients' training needs to meet treatment plan objectives.
  • Advise clients on appropriate social behavior.
  • Provide a safe environment conducive to learning and promote self-esteem and self-sufficiency.
  • Coordinate client activities under professional direction, adapting treatment plans to individual needs.
  • Develop clients' community living skills through various activities.
  • Maintain clients' money and distribute it appropriately to teach budgeting skills.
  • Assist in occupational therapy/recreational therapy programs to maximize independent living capacity.
  • Perform routine clerical functions, including scheduling and filing progress notes.
  • Obtain drugs from the pharmacy and administer them under a Registered Nurse's direction.
  • Assist in managing aggressive behavior of clients.
  • Perform basic first aid in case of patient injury.
