The Team You’ll Work With: For half a century, the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) has been the liaison between the New York City government and the disability community. In partnership with City offices and agencies, MOPD ensures City initiatives, programs, and policies address the needs and interests of people with disabilities. The office regularly engages in advocacy and policymaking at the local, state, national, and international levels to make certain accessibility and full inclusion are key priorities for all public and private stakeholders alike. The Problems You’ll Solve: - Respond quickly to press inquiries on MOPD and/or on the Commissioner, working with the Chief of Staff and the Communication Director. - With the Communication Director, proactively develop pitches to outlets – national, local, ethnic, and community media -- to highlight MOPD and the communities that we work with. - Build relationships with reporters and share MOPD’s work and the diverse communities that we represent. - Work closely with the Press teams in City Hall and other city agencies and ensure good communication and coordination. - Respond quickly to constituent calls and triage the call to the appropriate city agency. o Develop a tracker for the calls received and the agency that they were placed in; work with the Chief of Staff to identify any gaps or improvements. - Lead the internship process for MOPD. - Active participation in MOPD Leadership meetings. - Other duties - Perform other duties as assigned. About You: - You have excellent communication and persuasion to disability rights organizations and other external stakeholders. - You are a team player, a professional, and enjoy working in collaboration with others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience.
