About The Position

The risk specialist works under the license of the Hospital or Clinical Risk Manager assisting with the coordination of risk management processes designed to meet the requirements of the Florida Administrative Code. These include: assisting in the facilitation of surveys by regulatory and accrediting bodies; monitoring of action plans to achieve and maintain compliance with standards and regulations; occurrence investigation; assisting with the root cause analysis process; maintenance of the occurrence reporting system, along with databases supporting the system. This position coordinates with the Grievance Specialist to assist with investigations of complaints and grievances. This position works closely with the Patient Safety Officer to identify and resolve occurrence patterns and trends that may impact patient safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Effective April 7, 2022, all new hires or transfers must have a Patient Safety and/or Risk Management professional certification within three years of hire or transfer. For certifications that require a specified number of cases or hours worked within the specialty, the certification must be applied for once the case/time requirement has been met, and the certification must be obtained within one year of the requirement having been met (e.g. oncology, chemotherapy, diabetes education). New hires or transfers in the position prior to April 7, 2022 will have a one (1) year extension added to the deadline that was established upon their hire or transfer into the position.
  • 3 years experience within a healthcare environment.
  • Candidate must possess a working knowledge of MS Office and must be willing to learn additional software.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Previous regulatory, risk management or quality management experience
