About The Position

The Secondary Spanish Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality Spanish language instruction to students in grades [e.g., 7–12], fostering linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and a positive attitude toward language learning.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with elementary-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
  • Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • South Carolina certification in Spanish.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
  • Able to demonstrate adequate world language proficiency through the STAMP language assessment. An Advanced level is required to teach advanced courses in the world language, such as dual language immersion courses or Advanced Placement (AP).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state curriculum standards (which are reflective of ACTFL national standards).
  • Develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Integrate authentic resources, technology, and cultural content into lessons.
  • Design and administer assessments for growth.
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessments.
  • Prepare reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Establish a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment.
  • Promote student engagement, motivation, and respectful behavior.
  • Apply school policies and procedures consistently.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and wellbeing.
  • Stay current with best practices in language teaching and pedagogy as described by ACFTL and the SCDE.
