About The Position

The Elementary Art Teacher plans and delivers engaging visual arts instruction for students in grades K–5, fostering creativity and self-expression through the implementation of the district-approved curriculum. The teacher supports students’ artistic development by integrating age-appropriate techniques, art history, and cross-curricular connections. The Elementary Art Teacher monitors student progress, activities, and learning outcomes, addressing individual student needs as appropriate. Additionally, the teacher maintains a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment and communicates regularly with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Requirements

  • South Carolina certification in Art required with a strong GPA in relevant coursework.
  • Knowledge to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Skills to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying effective and innovative LEP instructional and student evaluation techniques and developing interpersonal relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the public, outstanding verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young learners while being creative and enthusiastic for the visual arts education.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions and working with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary studies.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their knowledge and skills in art (e.g. crafts, drawing, painting design, etc.) and in the proper use of equipment, tools and/or supplies.
  • Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  • Develops lessons that address grade level and content standards for the purpose of designing engaging work for students.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Assesses student progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of determining student acquisition of knowledge and of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aids for the purpose of providing an effective school environment for students which addresses their needs.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code, administrative and/or school policies.
  • Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
