About The Position

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a temporary full-time Spanish teacher. This position involves teaching 4 sections of about 16 students in each (levels 2 and 3). The goals of the Spanish program are to create full-immersion classrooms where students learn the language through activities designed to practice the different modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational) and to promote cultural competence. Our Spanish and other World Language teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping curriculum, assessments, and assignments. The school's mission is to prepare students for productive, ethical lives in college and beyond by fostering a stimulating education within an atmosphere of consideration, trust, and mutual responsibility. Requirements

• Have a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Spanish. A teaching credential is not required.
• Native or near-native fluency in the language
• Experience teaching Spanish at either the High school or College Level
• Have a teaching philosophy that centers cultural competence and performance based learning
• Be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rewarding academic environment
• Have patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
