About The Position

Monitor and review all orders and specimens that are received by specimen processing to ensure all samples are forwarded to the testing section and that all testing sent by the client is performed. This position will work in conjunction with Information Systems, Client Services, Referral Testing, Exception Handling and/or the testing sections to resolve issues that arise with the ordering process. Works independently to provide problem solving on issues that are in-depth in nature and may take the employee away from other assigned tasks for extended periods of time. Serves as the subject matter expert in Specimen Processing. Requirements

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and audits all pending orders that are in-transit, in-remote collection, or collection daily and follow through on any outstanding specimen issues.
  • Initiate and conduct searches for any lost/missing specimens and complete the appropriate documentation.
  • Investigate, resolves, and provides documentation for mislabels, compromised samples, and processing errors.
  • Move results
  • Retesting evaluation
  • Credit Requests
  • EIT database and Salesforce
  • Handles more complex processing needs, such as handling Beaker orders requiring special handling, STAT specimens, Blood Spot Cards, and Chain of Custody specimens, and processing special requests when needed.
  • Resolve Not Transmitted Electronic Orders Work in conjunction with UH Client Services and Interface Support
  • Resolve in depth processing and specimen handling issues for other processing groups, Solution Specialists, Technicians and Technologists.
  • Documents HIPAA breaches initiating at ARUP or Client Site. Observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality.
  • Initiate/evaluate non-conformances, assisting the Quality Specialist(s)
  • Document outcomes of mislabel challenge orders initiated by Quality Specialist(s)
  • Answers more complex questions related to test builds, tests orders, policy and procedures for Support Staff, Solution Specialists, Technicians, and Technologists
  • Serves as a Liaison and Triages any new issues UH Support Services, Couriers, Client services, Business Development Manager, Exception Handling, technical sections, and Referral Testing
  • Knows ARUP and UHSC laboratories and able to determine their locations, hours of operations, and general functions (or able to find such information using departmental information on Nucleus).
  • Handles orders/specimens deemed necessary for experienced processing support staff members.
  • Ability to make sound judgement decisions or checks with Supervisor or Lead when needed, before making such decisions
  • Remains informed of all procedures pertaining to specimen processing.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and regulations including, but not limited to, proper dress code and using proper protective clothing and other equipment.
  • Serve in the capacity of the core job as described in the position posting as workload and staffing require.
  • Other duties as assigned.
