About The Position

Oversee production of a 5,000-sow unit and leading up to 21 employees. Manage all aspects of the performance of the team including defining target, coaching, training and development, scheduling and continuous improvement activities and mindset. Work closely with HR and Sow Farm Manager on determining hiring needs and conduct on-site interviews. Facilitate weekly farm meetings to engage team members. Work with Nursery Service Manager on health and throughput concerns; proactively communicate health challenges. Execute animal care plans including vaccination and med plan. Execute continuous improvement plans. Monitor budgets and targets. Execute biosecurity program, animal welfare program, safety related activities and production policies. Ensure all team members are PQA trained. Participate in monthly regional farm meetings and quarterly whole system meetings. Assist in developing and setting farm budgets and targets. Develop a yearly business plan with Sow Service and update quarterly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Science, Veterinary Medicine or related field of study and one (1) year of experience as a Swine Herdsperson, Veterinarian, Swine Veterinarian, Veterinary Assistant, Farm Assistant, Agricultural Manager, Animal Breeder, Farrowing Lead, or related role where required experience gained.
  • Livestock management.
  • Meet all bio-security requirements as outlined by Animal Care policy/ procedure.
  • Knowledge of Animal Welfare requirements.
  • Able to tolerate a barn environment, which may include animal dander, manure, dust, blood, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
  • Resource Management (i.e. personnel, vendor, equipment, etc.).
  • Farm facility design.
  • Developing animal welfare programs and collaborating with veterinarian teams.
