About Redwood Materials Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2019, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have. Sorting Manager Essential Duties: Redwood Materials is currently searching for a Head of Sorting Technology to join our e ngineering team and develop robotics technology to automatically sort battery feedstock at the input to our recycling plants. This is a leadership role with strategic and tactical components; a successful candidate will build and lead a cross functional engineering team of software, controls, mechanical, and electrical engineers to create the future of s orting t echnology for the company.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Engineering , and 10 + years of engineering and engineering leadership experience in a fast paced, highly fluid environment
  • Proficiency across hardware and software stacks as applied in industries like robotics, vehicle automation, or factory automation
  • Well versed in all types of machine/automation components, sensors, vision systems, electro-mechanical actuators, motion control, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards

Responsibilities

  • Technical l ead for the architecture, design , implementation and test of an automated battery sorting system
  • People lead for a cross functional team of engineers with a focus on growing and mentoring engineers
  • Build ing a strong team and culture of safety, execution and innovation through data driven engineering
  • Collaborat ing with product , finance , operations and engineering teams to iterate on system requirements that make sense for the business, plant operators, and technical stakeholders for downstream battery consumption
  • Decision making for make versus buy for hardware and software components including but not limited to sensors, actuators, conveyer systems , ML infrastructure and compute systems
  • Requirements authorship for a reliable and accurate production sorting system
  • Own the technology roadmap for automated sorting systems at the company
