About The Position

The Solutions Engineer is responsible for driving Solutions-based aftermarket growth by evaluating customer installations and identifying opportunities for parts, upgrades, and service support. This role performs on-site inspections, troubleshooting, and technical analysis of operating equipment, translating field findings into clear recommendations and actionable next steps for customers and internal stakeholders. The Solutions Engineer develops detailed written reports and proposes practical, innovative solutions to complex customer challenges - whether mechanical, structural, operational, budget-related, or implementation-driven. Success in this role requires strong critical thinking, technical depth, and the ability to connect customer needs with Representative capabilities and Brentwood business objectives. This position blends hands-on field work with consultative selling and technical problem-solving, requiring both strong business acumen and water/wastewater treatment experience - particularly with trickling filters and chain & flight clarifier equipment. Creativity, accountability, and follow-through are essential, as the Solutions Engineer is expected to investigate opportunities thoroughly and support them through successful solution development and implementation. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Industrial) OR equivalent technical background with relevant field experience.
  • Experience: 2–4 years in a field-based role (industrial maintenance, construction, mechanical systems, or similar). Water/wastewater industry experience is a plus but not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn specialized equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and diagrams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CRM and ERP systems preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% domestically, including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Drive profitable aftermarket growth by identifying and converting field-based opportunities into parts, upgrade, retrofit, and service proposals aligned with Company objectives.
  • Perform on-site inspections and technical assessments of customer equipment (primarily chain & flight clarifier systems), completing target site visit cadence (ex: monthly) to sustain a healthy opportunity pipeline.
  • Document accurate, complete field data (measurements, photos, operating conditions, and equipment status) to support Solutions development, quoting, and execution planning.
  • Deliver clear inspection reports and recommendations within defined turnaround expectations (ex: report issued within 3–5 business days of site visit, unless otherwise communicated).
  • Generate and maintain an active pipeline of opportunities by tracking inspection outcomes and coordinating next steps to drive proposals, follow-up activity, and conversion.
  • Partner with Application Engineering to translate field findings into technically sound, commercially viable Solutions and quote packages.
  • Coordinate schedules and backlog planning with Representative firms, Product Line Managers, and Regional Sales Managers to ensure steady field coverage, optimized travel, and prioritized customer support.
  • Respond to customer and Representative inquiries with urgency and professionalism, meeting internal expectations for timely communication and follow-up on open issues.
  • Provide technical support for upgrades and retrofits, including troubleshooting and practical implementation considerations to reduce risk and improve field success
  • Build customer and Representative capability by supporting training initiatives, delivering technical guidance, and strengthening Brentwood’s credibility in the marketplace.
