About The Position

The Solution Design Manager plays a key role in shaping how prospects and customers understand and adopt athenahealth’s solutions. This role leads strategic discovery, evaluates business needs, and develops clear, compelling solution recommendations that support organizational goals. The position is based in a hybrid work environment and requires collaboration across Sales, Customer Success, and other internal teams. This role reports to the Director of Customer Solutions Group. The Solution Design team partners closely with Sales, Onboarding, Customer Success, Integration Services and Product to guide prospects and customers through solution evaluation and adoption. The team’s mission is to translate business needs into actionable solution strategies that demonstrate value and drive long-term success. Solution Designers leverage market insights, workflow expertise, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration to support informed decision-making throughout the sales cycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in consultative sales or solution-focused customer engagement.
  • Data driven mindset with a focus on operational precision.
  • Experience building relationships with senior leaders and decision-makers.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentations, business writing, and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply business acumen while maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
  • Ability to analyze business operations and technology-enabled processes.
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to present clear rationale for recommendations.
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply them to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Support the sales cycle by engaging directly with prospects across organizational levels to understand goals and recommend aligned solution strategies.
  • Develop solution approaches that adapt athenahealth workflows and services to meet unique customer needs.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and collateral such as whitepapers that clearly communicate solution capabilities and value.
  • Lead due diligence to define minimum business requirements related to information management, patient engagement, and financial and operational workflows.
  • Manage the transition from Sales to Onboarding and Customer Success for assigned engagements.
  • Develop professional proposals in partnership with Sales Executives, Account Executives, Solution Consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Build market intelligence to inform solution positioning and support strategic sales opportunities.
  • Guide the creation and review of ROI models, workflow analyses, and solution recommendations.
  • Support team adoption of emerging AI capabilities.
  • Thoughtfully and responsibly evaluate and integrate AI tools and AI outputs into internal and external workflows such as strategic analyses, proposal development, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of team processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Mentor team members by sharing insights, approaches, and solution strategies.
  • Support internal initiatives that strengthen cross-functional alignment.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing forums.
  • Assist with special projects that advance team or organizational objectives.
