As a Solution Architect Sr (Bank Enterprise Risk Architect) within PNC's [name of division] organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh PA or Strongsville OH Enterprise Risk Solutions Architect (Banking) Solutions Architect – Risk Technology Overview The Risk Technology Group at PNC supports the Bank’s Independent Risk Management and Technology Risk Governance functions. We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to play a critical role in shaping and modernizing the Risk Technology landscape. This position is suited for a hands-on technical practitioner who combines deep engineering expertise with architectural rigor and takes ownership for delivering real business outcomes. The successful candidate will translate business strategy, regulatory requirements, and operating models into clear, actionable, and executable technical designs that delivery teams can implement with confidence. This role is actively engaged from conceptualization through implementation, with direct accountability for outcomes—this is not an ivory tower architecture position. Job Description Develops solution architecture and resolves complex issues in a variety of projects through the implementation of requirements analysis, expertise support and project supervision. Designs solution architecture in large or complex programs, including system and application designs, software and technical architecture, in accordance with strategies and objectives. Provides expertise for the solution architecture team and other IT staff on a variety of issues in software designs, system architecture and solution-oriented technologies. Communicates with clients and analyses business requirements and processes; makes recommendations, and leads in shaping future plans in solution architecture. Oversees solution architecture project outcomes, including hardware and software design; ensures that each project phase meets overall requirements. Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience in full-stack application development within complex enterprise environments.
  • Proven track record designing and building distributed and service-based systems that operate at scale.
  • Strong command of application architecture principles, design patterns, and integration strategies.
  • Practical experience with containerization and DevOps, including Docker and CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, uDeploy, or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience working with event streaming platforms (Kafka or equivalent), large scale Data platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with product owners, business analysts, and engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, delivery-oriented mindset.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with SAFe, Agile, or Scrum practices and supporting tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Successful candidates must demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities for a role.
  • Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree.
  • Industry relevant experience is typically 8+ years.

  • Experience or exposure to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic architectures.
  • Background in design thinking and user-centered solution design.
  • Strong understanding of banking risk management concepts and practices.
  • Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Risk Management product owners, business leaders, and technology teams to analyze complex business and regulatory needs and translate them into implementable solutions.
  • Create solution architectures that follow PNC’s Enterprise Architecture standards while staying practical and focused on delivery.
  • Serve as a technical bridge between Risk Management, Enterprise Architecture, and Engineering teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and operable.
  • Contribute directly to solution delivery by producing and reviewing: o Logical and physical architecture diagrams o Application and integration blueprints o Sequence and context diagrams o Logical data models and reporting frameworks o Business capability maps and target-state process models
  • Take an active role in developing and engaging with practical proof-of-concept projects that incorporate innovative or recently introduced technologies, ensuring design choices are effectively validated.
  • Drive modernization of the Risk Technology ecosystem, with particular focus on data platforms, analytics, and distributed systems.
  • Provide practical guidance to engineering teams through design reviews, trade-off analysis, and implementation support.
  • Maintain a delivery mindset by helping estimate outcomes, manage technical risk, and support roadmap development tied to measurable business value.
