Soldering/Panel Assembler
About The Position
Soldering/Panel Assembler Employment Type: Full-Time Schedule: Monday - Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Essential Job Functions: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform hand soldering of through-hole and wire-to-terminal connections (including splices and solder sleeves) per work instructions and quality standards. Build and assemble control panels and subassemblies using drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs). Prepare components for soldering by stripping, tinning, routing, and dressing wires; install heat shrink and insulation as required. Crimp and terminate wires (open/closed barrel, ring, spade, ferrule, etc.) and install connectors/cable assemblies as required. Inspect work for workmanship, polarity/orientation, and defects (cold joints, insufficient wetting, solder bridges, damaged insulation) and perform rework as needed. Use measuring and test equipment as assigned (e.g., continuity checks, basic electrical verification) and document results per procedure. Read and interpret drawings before and during assembly; ask clarifying questions to Operations Manager, Team Leads, Production, and Engineering. Maintain soldering equipment and tools (iron, tips, fume extraction, hand tools) and keep work area neat and orderly using 5S practices. Document procedures and contribute to the library of Standard Work Instructions; support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives. Maintain a high awareness of personal safety at all times and follow company policies and procedures (including those in the Employee Handbook, ISO9001, and ISO27001 documents). Requirements
- Proficient in hand soldering for control panel wiring, including wire-to-terminal soldering, splices, and solder sleeves, meeting workmanship expectations.
- Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements (or ability to learn quickly) for wire harness/cable and interconnect workmanship.
- Ability to read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and work instructions.
- Skilled in wire preparation (strip length, tinning, heat shrink selection/placement, routing/dressing) and terminations (crimping, ferrules, ring/spade lugs) as required.
- Able to identify and correct solder defects (cold joints, disturbed joints, insufficient wetting, solder icicles/bridges) and perform rework without damaging insulation/components.
- Comfortable using hand tools and basic test/measurement equipment (e.g., continuity checks, basic electrical verification) and documenting results.
- Understands safe soldering practices including fume extraction/ventilation, hot tool handling, chemical handling (flux/solvents), and PPE requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, quality mindset, and ability to work to deadlines while maintaining workmanship standards.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience building industrial control panels (DIN rail components, terminal blocks, power distribution, I/O wiring).
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification (any level) or documented soldering training.
- Experience with labeling, wire markers, and panel documentation practices.
- Familiarity with 5S/Lean manufacturing and ISO-style quality systems.
