About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. This is a broad scoped position providing manufacturing engineering ownership of multiple assemblies for the Amazon Leo satellite program. You will be supporting new satellite assemblies early in the design phase, providing critical design for manufacturability input and supporting testing of these assemblies, while developing and implementing the plan to move from design/test into build/production. This role will require a thorough understanding of automated inspection techniques, power systems, and solar panel manufacturing processes. You will own root cause analysis efforts to validate manufacturing processes for robustness, yield, and reliability scenarios. You will be responsible for ensuring your areas meets year end delivery goals. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. Requirements

  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with high volume automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with statistical process control
  • 3+ years using root cause analysis techniques to implement corrective actions
  • 2+ years tracking and analyzing production metrics
  • Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience with solar panel manufacturing techniques and equipment
  • Experience setting up automated optical inspection systems
  • Experience leading production report outs to stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Design space hardware production processes and production lines with a focus on solar panel manufacturing
  • Utilize statistical process controls to ensure overall equipment effectiveness
  • Report out delivery metrics and devise plans to eliminate production blockers
  • Experience with equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification
  • Work with supply chain partners to manage critical vendors
  • Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition with minimal existing definition
  • Ability to support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis
  • Assembly, Integration, and Test takt time & cost optimization planning
  • DFM review and sign off for design release
