About The Position

Cimarron is seeking a Software Systems Engineer to support Axiom on their Commercial Space Station program in Houston, TX. The selected candidate for this position will play a role in designing, integrating, and validating software systems that support space operations and station infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the next generation of human spaceflight and commercial space infrastructure!

Requirements

  • Ability to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening, which will include but is not limited to testing for marijuana use.
  • 5 or more years of experience in systems engineering, systems integration, and/or software-intensive engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering processes, including requirements development, requirements architecture, interface definition, traceability, and change control.
  • Demonstrated experience with systems integration, verification, and validation planning and execution.
  • Ability to author clear, testable system and software requirements, including functional, performance, safety, cybersecurity, and interface requirements.
  • Experience maintaining bidirectional traceability from ConOps through system, software, design, and test artifacts.
  • Experience defining and supporting systems architecture and design, including interface control documents (ICDs), message schemas, timing constraints, and failure behaviors.
  • Familiarity with software architecture concepts, including partitioning, redundancy, data flows, and modes and states.
  • Hands-on experience with requirements and lifecycle management tools such as Jama, DOORS, or Innoslate, and collaboration tools including JIRA, Confluence, and GitLab CI.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and SysML tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or equivalent, or related model-based methodologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience supporting or leading requirements reviews, impact assessments, and verification readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with Agile or hybrid development environments and cross-functional engineering coordination.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, including schedule, risk management, and mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace or spaceflight systems.
  • INCOSE Membership or Certification (ASEP/CSEP).

Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and manage system and software requirements, interfaces, and architecture across the program lifecycle.
  • Maintain bidirectional requirements traceability from ConOps through system, software, design, and test artifacts.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including software, hardware, avionics, and integration teams, to ensure seamless end-to-end system integration.
  • Support software development lifecycle activities, including planning, implementation support, verification, validation, and release readiness.
  • Define and support interface control documents (ICDs), message schemas, timing constraints, and system behaviors.
  • Participate in system and software architecture trades, including partitioning, redundancy strategies, data flows, and operational modes and states.
  • Plan, author, and support verification and validation activities, including test methods, acceptance criteria, and integration readiness.
  • Identify technical risks and support development of mitigation strategies throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Support system-level design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and change control activities.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including requirements specifications, interface documents, and verification artifacts.
