About The Position

Engineering Team Manager, Acuity Scheduling Squarespace is looking for an Engineering Team Manager to lead the Platform team within the Acuity Scheduling product group. Acuity Scheduling’s mission is to help appointment-based businesses start and grow their service by allowing clients to directly schedule appointments, removing administrative burden and giving our users more time to focus on what they love doing. We are a distinct brand and platform within the Squarespace suite of products. The Acuity Platform team is responsible for the core infrastructure, reliability, and foundational services that power the Acuity Scheduling product, ensuring a highly available and performant experience for millions of users. We’re looking for a technical manager with Cloud Infrastructure, Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience that can lead by example, is impassioned about removing roadblocks from in front of the team, and can create engineering solutions for customer and business needs, technical debt, and system architecture.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience in software development, with significant experience in Platform, Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
  • 5+ years of experience managing an Engineering team of six or more engineers, ideally focused on Platform, SRE, or core infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to drive operational excellence, including experience with incident management, post-mortems, and building high-availability and fault-tolerant systems, preferably within a microservices architecture .
  • A strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), monitoring, alerting, and automated deployment pipelines (CI/CD).
  • An ability to break down complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders through documents and presentations.
  • Strong technical foundations to navigate the inherent tradeoffs in decision-making and ensure deliverables are well-tested and maintainable.
  • A strong understanding of the principles of Developer Experience and how to apply them to platform and infrastructure services.
  • Experience with infrastructure cost management and optimization, including capacity planning and implementing cost-saving measures in a cloud environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a diverse team of experienced software engineering ICs across a spectrum of skills and experience.
  • Assume an active role in the career development of direct reports with regular 1:1s, direct feedback, and coaching.
  • Exercise technical expertise in reviewing project initiatives, collaborating with a partner from our Product team to decide which new features your team will deliver.
  • Advocate for excellence in system design and promote engineering best practices, including automated testing.
  • Lead large-scale initiatives that impact millions of users.
