As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally. The App Basics team is a core part of Google Messages, delivering a seamless and engaging messaging experience to over 1 billion monthly active users. The team is responsible for key user journeys and user interface (UI) surfaces within Google Messages. Android is Google’s mobile operating system powering more than 3 billion devices worldwide. Android is about bringing computing to everyone in the world. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development (e.g., Java, Kotlin).
• 3 years of experience with android application development.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Experience building mobile applications on android.
• Experience with mobile apps with a large user-base.
• Experience managing 6 engineers as an engineering manager or technical lead manager.

Responsibilities

• Support a team of 10 engineers responsible for several key UI surfaces within the Google Messages app.
• Advocate for the team, helping individuals grow and succeed while aligning team strategy, processes, and decision-making.
• Work with cross-functional product manager/user experience peers and technical leads on the team to set the product roadmap, plan, and deliver features.
• Balance the need to build new features while proactively identifying areas for improvement and advocating for quality and reliability efforts.
• Develop and drive the engineering execution plan for both new initiatives and long-running projects while providing technical leadership to the team.
