As a Software Engineering Manager - Manager Level 2 located in Morrisville, NC , you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one within the Eastern Region Engineering Management Team. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. The manager will be responsible for helping to provide technical oversight and directly contribute to the entire software development lifecycle to include design, development, integration, test, and maintenance. Additionally, the manager will lead and guide a matrixed functional team of approximately 10-15 software and systems engineers through technical processes, career development, and performance appraisals. The software manager will also participate in proposal generation, staffing allocations, and recruitment. The manager will guide their team in applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle in support of programs. The candidate should have previous or current experience in leading and coordinating a team through challenging software system lifecycle activities. Excellent communication skills (oral and written), and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in collaborating and leading technical teams. The candidate will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while adopting new and emerging ways of doing business. The manager must guide their team utilizing an Agile development approach with tasks including decomposition of requirements into agile features, software design, coding, testing, integration, and systems test to deliver enhanced secure capabilities. Strong communication and people leadership skills are vital to this position. Sound engineering experience, a passion for mentoring and developing employees, and current strong technical program performance are a must. This position is contingent on successful security clearance processing. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

  • Day-to-day communications, compensation reviews, career counseling and mentoring, professional development, employee rewards and recognition and resolving personnel issues for assigned staff.
  • Lead team in completing all corporate requirements on time to include employee goal setting and quarterly formal performance feedback touch points.
  • Provide staffing support to programs and other engagement initiatives at the Morrisville facility.
  • Collaborate with other Section Managers and Department Manager to ensure a common approach to engineering leadership is established.
  • Provide status to or consult with Department Manager regarding assigned staff, including performance, engagement, compensation, recognition, training, staffing, employee relations and other items.
  • Collaborate with HR in support of assigned staff, including performance, compensation, engagement, employee relations, short-term disability, staffing requisitions and offers, employee mobility and other activities.
  • Hold regular 1:1s with individuals to ensure bi-lateral communications are established to focus on the needs and aspirations of the employee.
  • The manager must guide their team utilizing an Agile development approach with tasks including decomposition of requirements into agile features, software design, coding, testing, integration, and systems test to deliver enhanced secure capabilities.
  • Leveraging strong communication and people leadership skills across their team, upwards to program leadership, and with customer-facing meetings and presentations.

  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of engineering experience - OR - Master's degree with 10+ years of engineering experience. Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance [ TS ] at time of application , current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI approval/access [US Citizenship required]
  • 5 years of progressive software or systems engineering experience
  • Experience as Team Lead or Manager of a software development or systems engineering team
  • Active SCI program access
  • 12 years' experience in either Software or Systems Engineering
  • 3 years of team lead or manager experience
  • Experience as a Hiring Manager and with Functional Management
  • Experience as a scrum master and/or product owner
  • Experience managing a budget for technical activities
  • Knowledge or experience with existing Morrisville site programs
