About The Position

Synthego is a pioneering force in the biotechnology industry, dedicated to advancing the frontiers of CRISPR cell and gene therapies through cutting-edge CRISPR technology and expertise. This summer we are opening our doors and looking to welcome a Software Engineering intern to partner with our Synthegoats on our Software Engineering team. This role is for someone currently pursuing a college degree in software engineering or related field, with an interest in the software development lifecycle and trying to gain some on-the-job experience in biotech. This opportunity is a 10-week paid internship running from June to August.

Requirements

  • You are a college student pursuing a degree in engineering
  • You are an avid learner and willing to take on an unfamiliar project
  • You have great communication skills and enjoy collaborating with others
  • You are comfortable programming in Python, and have familiarity with Django, REST APIs, and SQL databases
  • Familiar with version control such as Git, and comfortable working with Docker and containerized environments
  • You are curious about AI-assisted development tools and eager to explore how they fit into real workflows
  • You have worked on projects that apply software solutions to real-world problems
  • You understand the importance of documentation and testing
  • You are able to debug issues in your code when they arise
  • You know when to ask for help if your progress is affected

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with or exposure to React, Redux, and frontend development is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work with the software team to understand our order processing systems and data flows across multiple platforms
  • Design, build, and deploy a microservice that fits into a larger software ecosystem
  • Learn the software development lifecycle from design and architecture through implementation, testing, and deployment
  • Gain hands-on experience integrating AI tools into a production software development workflow
  • Participate in code review to develop an eye for code quality and software best practices
  • Engage daily with your mentor and team members to iterate on design decisions and deliver a maintainable solution
  • Build on your work incrementally, starting with foundational tasks and progressing toward a complete service
