Software Engineering Intern, Backend - Summer 2026
About The Position

As a Backend Engineering Intern on the ALSO backend team, you'll join a group of engineers building the cloud systems that power the connected experience behind Also's EVs. You'll contribute to developing features, improving data pipelines, and supporting APIs that make our vehicles smarter and more reliable. This internship is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in backend software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and IoT systems. You'll learn from experienced engineers while contributing to real product features that impact customers and our connected fleet.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Expected graduation date in 2027
- Exposure to programming languages like Python, Java, JavaScript, or Go through coursework or personal projects.
- Understanding of web APIs (REST, GraphQL, JRPC, etc.) and data formats such as JSON.
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Interest in learning cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization tools (Docker). Prior exposure is a plus but not required.
- Curiosity about IoT systems, data pipelines, and distributed infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Prior exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization tools (Docker).
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the backend team to assist in building and testing components of our platform.
- Contribute to API development and write tests for microservices and data processing workflows that support connected EV features.
- Work with mentors to improve reliability, scalability, and observability of backend systems.
- Support integration of telemetry and analytics systems that enable insights into fleet performance.
- Contribute to development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Participate in code reviews and team discussions to learn best practices in modern backend engineering.
