About The Position

OneDrive and SharePoint (ODSP) power the world’s most impactful intranets, collaboration experiences, business workflows, and content ecosystems. We are seeking a full stack Principal Architect to shape and deliver compelling user experiences in SharePoint in an AI-first world. As a Principal Architect, you will operate at product and platform altitude, ensuring we deliver AI-powered experiences that users love and use while ensuring engineering excellence for security, scalability, and engineering velocity. This role will drive technical vision for a broad and rapidly expanding set of AI workloads: RAG, agents, content generation, semantic search, content understanding, and ODSP’s emerging agents that orchestrate multi‑step actions across files, lists, and sites. This is a hands‑on technical and strategic role where you will role model how ODSP Experiences builds trust in AI and ships AI safely, quickly, and confidently. You will take the lead on key projects and spearhead architectural investigations that accelerate innovation. You will be coding actively and extensively leveraging AI and modeling for the team. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience delivering experiences leveraging AI/ML (RAG, orchestration, eval systems, agent architectures, etc.)
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a senior technical leader with regular exposure to VP‑level engineering leadership, influencing architectural decisions across organizations.
  • Proven track record of hands-on technical and architectural leadership in high-scale, cloud-based environments.
  • Solid architectural skills in building scalable, distributed systems and cloud services.
  • Track record of rapid iteration, experimentation, and continuous learning.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and cross-team partnership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical architecture for key projects across SharePoint Experiences.
  • Model AI-first development best practices and engineering agility and velocity while reinforcing fundamentals (security, responsible AI, performance, etc.).
  • Partner with Applied Science, Product, Customer Success, and teams across E+D to translate real customer needs into scalable architectural patterns.
  • Use evaluation, customer, and telemetry signals (offline and online) as inputs to product decisions, iteration, and safe deployment.
  • Act as a technical force multiplier, guiding engineers across teams, resolving cross‑cutting design tradeoffs, and influencing platform roadmaps in M365.
