Job Description Role Overview The Software Engineering Director – Consumer Money Movement is a senior engineering and people leader accountable for the stability, scalability, and modernization of high-volume consumer payment experiences. This role provides clear technical and operational ownership of critical money movement capabilities, including APIs and customer-facing channels, and partners closely with product and business leaders to improve resiliency, reduce operational risk, and enable future innovation. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role requiring deep technical credibility to make sound architectural and implementation decisions while leading multiple teams and products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong hands-on programming background.
  • 5+ years of experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to make engineering decisions at scale across multiple products.
  • Strong programming experience; Java background preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in digital payments or money movement domains.
  • Experience supporting or modernizing high-availability, regulated platforms.
  • Exposure to AI or machine-learning–enabled features within consumer financial products.

Responsibilities

  • Money Movement Platforms & APIs End-to-end engineering ownership for consumer money movement capabilities, including Mobile Check Deposit, Zelle, ACH, Wires, and supporting integration APIs.
  • Accountability for API design, stability, and performance connecting mobile and online experiences to backend money movement systems.
  • Technical decision-making across iOS, Android, and backend services, ensuring cohesive and reliable customer experiences.
  • Engineering Leadership & Team Management Lead a large, multi-product engineering organization (20+ employees, 7–8 direct reports, and a significant contractor population).
  • Manage engineers across mobile and backend stacks; prior experience managing managers is not required, but the ability to lead multiple products and teams simultaneously is essential.
  • Foster strong engineering fundamentals including code quality, thoughtful design, and continuous improvement.
  • Stability, Resiliency & Operational Excellence Drive platform stability improvements and reduce incident frequency and impact across high-risk, high-volume payment systems.
  • Strengthen accountability for production outcomes, regulatory compliance, and customer trust.
  • Champion automation, modernization, and scalable engineering practices.
  • Strategy, Partnership & Innovation Partner closely with product, business, and backend money movement teams to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions.
  • Serve as a credible engineering voice in strategic discussions, including AI-enabled enhancements to consumer money movement experiences.
  • Translate business priorities into clear engineering direction across multiple products.
