About The Position

VMEC, Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls, is a production level group that supports the definition, design, and development of all embedded controllers that impact vehicle motion. As a Software Engineer, you will play a key part in shaping the GM vehicles on the road today and driving innovation for future market opportunities. We are looking for creative, highly motivated, and agile thinkers with a passion for Controls and Software development and a keen eye for detail. As a member of our team, you will develop advanced controls and diagnostics in collaboration with scrum teams, leveraging industry-standard methods for VMEC features. Your work will strengthen our capabilities in controls and software methods, ensuring General Motors remains at the forefront of automotive innovation.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 2+ years Engineering experience related to embedded (C, C++) controls and/or controls/software development.
  • Skilled with Simulink, MATLAB, DOORS, GIT environment(s), Jira plant modeling and/or analysis tools and C code.
  • Proficiency with control system theory and application to embedded systems including state space feedback control, adaptive control, and model predictive control (or equivalent)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements.
  • High level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Ability to Participate in cross-functional scrum teams while demonstrating high level of collaboration and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and trust. Lead by example.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results.

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, or equivalent degree.
  • In-depth knowledge of algorithm/software development and calibration of vehicle motion controls.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamic systems Experience in plant modeling and analysis tools, MIL, SIL, HIL Testing Vehicle Propulsion, Brake Control, or Chassis Control or Battery High Voltage, or Vehicle Energy Transfer, or Charging or Automotive System knowledge is a plus.
  • DFSS Green Belt

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust algorithms for various vehicle features and systems in Brake and Chassis controls.
  • Works cross-functionally with Software Engineers, Feature/Function Engineers, Calibrators, Scrum Manager/Scrum Leader to ensure robust design.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to define vehicle, sub-system, and behavioral requirements.
  • Develop and document requirements required to design an automotive system.
  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within systems to enable component reuse and consistency to standard methodologies.
  • Collaborate with other teams to define and integrate components, check functionality on the bench and in the vehicle.
  • Provide support to other specialists for root cause analysis.
  • Support software unit tests, HIL (Hardware in the loop), and vehicle tests from customer’s expectations and system requirements.
  • Strong ability to expertly capture and analyze empirical data to verify system performance.
  • Continually push technology to lead and define the new state of art for control and system simulation.
  • Identify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective actions.
  • Support resolution of vehicle, plant, or customer issues related to controls and calibration.
  • Collaborate with other teams to define and integrate components, check functionality on the bench and in the vehicle.
  • Participate in the relevant Team and Program Events: Program Increment Planning, DSU (Daily Stand Up), Iteration Reviews, ART Inspection and Adapt sessions etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel as required.
