About The Position

The Edge Device Services group at Microsoft is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to advance its platform for massive, at-scale content distribution. This team is responsible for distributing mission-critical products to millions of Windows devices daily, evolving its platform to meet modern business requirements and strengthen the secure supply chain across the industry. This role offers an opportunity to help shape the future stack of the largest software distribution solution in the industry. The cloud platform connects billions of Windows devices daily, delivering a fast and robust solution for acquiring Microsoft software, including operating system updates, games, drivers, enterprise and consumer applications, antimalware signatures, AI models, and Store content. The successful candidate will solve complex engineering challenges spanning scale, security, reliability, extensibility, maintainability, compliance, and optimized resource utilization (e.g., battery life and network efficiency). Collaboration with teams across Microsoft is essential to modernize client portfolios and enable company-wide scenarios. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building and operating large‑scale distributed services (cloud or hybrid).
  • Experience with content distribution, update delivery, caching, or CDN‑style systems.
  • Experience applying secure coding practices (for example, threat modeling, dependency hygiene, vulnerability mitigation).
  • Experience with observability and live‑site operations (logging, metrics, tracing, incident response).
  • Experience with CI/CD and deployment automation for production services.
  • Experience optimizing performance and resource utilization for Windows devices (for example, battery life and network efficiency).

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to feature requirements and helps refine implementation plans under technical leadership.
  • Authors and improves design documents for product features with guidance and oversight.
  • Develops, debugs, and maintains code for product features using modern engineering tools and practices.
  • Collaborates to create and execute test plans that improve quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Automates and improves production and deployment processes to strengthen operational excellence.
  • Ensures security, privacy, and compliance requirements are incorporated throughout feature development and release.
  • Learns and applies new approaches to improve platform performance, reliability, and maintainability.
