Requirements

  • Full-stack software development experience, with strong backend/service engineering capability
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of: Java (Spring Boot) or TypeScript/Node.js
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts (reliability, failure modes, retries/timeouts, idempotency, eventual consistency)
  • Proficiency building and operating on AWS, including several of: Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SNS/SQS, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager, IAM
  • Experience designing and maintaining APIs (REST), including versioning and backward compatibility considerations; familiarity with API contracts
  • Experience with event-driven integration patterns (queues/topics, DLQs, replay/backfill considerations)
  • Experience with containers and deployment on Kubernetes/OpenShift (ROSA), including concepts such as deployments, services/ingress, config/secrets, and rollout strategies
  • Experience with CI/CD and release management practices (GitLab CI/CD preferred), including safe rollout/rollback strategies
  • Ability to support production systems: debugging, log/trace interpretation, incident triage, and partnering effectively across teams
  • Strong OOP and service design fundamentals; ability to translate complex operational needs into maintainable designs
  • Experience with developer productivity tooling such as GitHub Copilot
  • Excellent analytical, communication, research, and documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Observability tooling experience (CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Splunk)
  • Security/IAM and PII-handling experience (least privilege, encryption, secrets management, auditability)
  • Experience supporting single-page applications (SPA) and front-end integration patterns (Angular familiarity a plus)
  • Experience building/operating custom agents or MCP servers with GitHub CoPilot

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy software solutions across AWS Native and/or AWS OpenShift (ROSA) platforms supporting claim operations
  • Build and maintain integrations across our claims ecosystem, including synchronous APIs and asynchronous/event-driven workflows (SNS/SQS)
  • Maintain, modernize and enhance existing Java/Spring Boot microservices deployed to ROSA, including container build/release and Kubernetes/OpenShift deployment workflows
  • Support an AWS-native Angular single-page application (SPA) by designing and evolving backend APIs and services that power the UI
  • Implement and enforce engineering best practices including CI/CD (GitLab), automated testing, code quality, infrastructure as code (Terraform), and secure-by-default patterns (Secrets Manager/IAM)
  • Own production health of your services: monitor and troubleshoot issues using CloudWatch, Splunk, and Dynatrace; perform incident triage across upstream/downstream dependencies; and execute safe deployments/rollbacks (blue/green, canary, etc.)
  • Remediate vulnerabilities and operational findings via ticket-driven work (e.g., ServiceNow)
  • Produce and maintain technical artifacts including architecture diagrams, API contracts, runbooks, and other operational documentation
  • Mentor peers and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, pragmatic design, and operational ownership

  • Potential starting salary range: $97,000 - $123,000
  • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
  • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
