About The Position

At PNC, the Software Engineer Principal (JAVA/Spring Boot) within PNC's Retail Tech Core Debit Product organization provides technical leadership and architectural direction across critical software initiatives. This role involves designing scalable systems, mentoring engineering teams, and driving best practices to align technology solutions with business strategy. It requires deep technical expertise, strong influence without authority, and a proven ability to solve complex, cross-domain problems. The position is based in Dallas TX, Pittsburgh PA or Strongsville OH. PNC is an in-office company. The role also involves aligning business strategy with software solutions, proposing, designing, and coding software solutions for complex business needs, overseeing technical and procedural documentation, leading complex problem-solving, and providing technical guidance and support to colleagues. The individual is expected to display an innovative approach to apply modern principles, methodologies, and tools to advance business initiatives and capabilities. Employees are expected to be customer-focused and adept at managing risk according to PNC's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.

Requirements

Proven experience designing and implementing large scale, distributed systems.
Expertise in one or more core programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or Go.
Strong knowledge of system architecture, APIs, databases, and data modeling.
Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Deep understanding of software development lifecycle and modern engineering practices.
University / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
Bachelors degree.
