Replica provides data about the built environment and ways people interact with it. With better data, human-context and an intuitive design, Replica helps public and private sectors make informed, effective, and responsive decisions. By showing how people live, move and work, we contextualize hard choices, allowing our clients to see around corners and understand the trade-offs surrounding their decisions. Whether for a city planner increasing public transit to underserved neighborhoods or for a grocery chain evaluating where to open a new location, Replica’s insights lets clients make more informed, people-centered decisions. The Role We’re hiring a Software engineer to focus on developing our react-based web platform. This is a full-stack software engineering role in both front-end and back-end web application development. Replica’s Product Vision Replica builds software to enable users to make decisions about the built environment. This spans map-based analytical tools to more in-depth public sector workflows to future-focused scenario-based products. We’re constantly iterating on our core product, building new applications, and unifying all of these into a single, cohesive platform experience.In this role, you'll help bring these workflows to life by translating designs into fast, reliable front-end code — directly shaping the tools our customers rely on to make high-stakes, real-world decisions. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a full-stack engineer.
  • Experience in web application development using a modern JavaScript client framework.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Able to identify when something is unclear and proactively seek clarification
  • Someone who doesn’t need constant direction — able to pick up tasks and run with them

Nice To Haves

  • Bonus - Experience with our tech stack which includes: React, Typescript, Node, Mapbox, Python, Pandas, Postgres, BigQuery, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement functional workflows that enable customers to process and analyze complex urban data, make data-driven decisions, and efficiently manage urban planning operations
  • Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs which use spatial context to efficiently query and aggregate nationwide geospatial and temporal data.
  • Collaborate across teams to deeply understand users' needs, develop and evolve requirements based on user research, set delivery timelines, and implement and deploy urban data applications at nationwide scale.Work with senior engineers, designers, and product managers to define the team's technical vision and roadmap.
  • Drive engineering best practices to enable a robust production environment and maintain an effective development velocity.
  • Achieve uptime requirements and maintain API stability through remote logging and observability tools.
  • Participate in on-call rotation; investigate and resolve production problems as they arise.Understand the urban data science context to ensure that correct, consistent, and meaningful functionality is delivered to customers.
