About The Position

We are looking for a Software Engineer III to join our team and build the Search backend services processing billions of queries for millions of products on Walmart sites and apps worldwide. About Team: The Search team at Walmart processes billions of queries across millions of products on our global websites and apps. Whether a customer is searching for a specific item or browsing through categories, our platform powers the intelligence behind product discovery. We leverage structured and semi-structured data at massive scale - drawing from catalogs, transaction logs, social data, and more. By combining cutting-edge information retrieval, machine learning, and ranking algorithms, we build low-latency, high-availability systems that directly impact customer experience and business metrics. As a Software Engineer III, you’ll spend your days translating requirements into solutions, implementing with code, collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing us with the insights necessary to think beyond the status quo. You’ll work with other engineers or independently to get the job done.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience designing technical solutions in response to product requirement and changes in business.
  • Java/J2EE programming experience with a focus on server-side components.
  • Experience in developing Web applications; Experience with Spring framework.
  • Experience with search technologies (e.g., Solr, Lucene, Vespa).
  • Scripting skills in at least one of the following: Python or Shell and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Experience with IntelliJ or other IDE development tools
  • Experience with Source Code Management Tools (GitHub, SVN, CVS)
  • Knowledge of standard tools for optimizing and testing code
  • Ability to operate effectively and independently in a dynamic, fluid environment
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the discovery phase of small to medium-sized projects to come up with high level design.
  • Designs, implements, and tests complex code changes for specific business requirements.
  • Analyzes business needs and develops plans to implement software requirements in conjunction with product management and architects.
  • Independently handles high impact, critical software/systems monitoring issues and tickets/incidents.
  • Manages small to medium-sized complex projects.
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions.
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues.
