About The Position

Are you passionate about building production grade data and software systems, including AI backed services, that operate at cloud scale and uphold the highest standards of reliability, security, and compliance? The Azure Core Fundamentals team is seeking a Software Engineer II to design and implement scalable data pipelines, data services, and AI-enabled product features that help make Azure the world’s most trusted cloud platform. In this role, you’ll work end to end - from architecture and design, through implementation and deployment - building solutions where performance, resiliency, and operational excellence are critical. Your work will integrate data access, data pipelines, experimentation, telemetry, and automation to ensure systems remain reliable and compliant in production. You will contribute to the deployment and operation of data driven and model assisted features, supporting safe rollout, monitoring, and iteration using flighting, experimentation, and rollback mechanisms. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product partners, and domain experts to translate complex requirements into secure, cloud ready data and software solutions, while applying best practices for testing, diagnostics, privacy, and least access security. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Demonstrated experience with production data and software systems, with clear end-to-end ownership.
  • Strong foundation in software and data engineering concepts, including data pipelines, data access patterns, and reliability considerations in distributed systems.
  • Experience supporting data driven or model assisted features in production, including monitoring, experimentation, and iterative improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy production grade data services, and AI-assisted features that run at cloud scale with strong reliability, security, and compliance guarantees.
  • Own systems end to end, including architecture, implementation, deployment, and monitoring, with a focus on resiliency, performance, and diagnosability.
  • Develop and maintain high quality, extensible code, applying best practices for testing, privacy, security, and operational readiness.
  • Integrate telemetry, experimentation, automation, and flighting to support safe rollout, monitoring, rollback, and continuous improvement of data driven features.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product partners, data and applied scientists, and domain experts to translate requirements into secure, cloud-ready data and software solutions.
