About The Position

We’re looking for a Software Engineer (SWE II) to join the team focused on CloudZero’s Kubernetes capabilities. This work includes collecting and instrumenting data from customer Kubernetes clusters, transferring it to the CloudZero platform, and surfacing it for user insight. With Kubernetes adoption among our customers at ~66%, this is a core area of our product and a major differentiator. CloudZero’s platform uses serverless technologies to power a scalable, event-driven architecture. We ingest and normalize millions of real-time events from customer environments, leveraging tools like Snowflake, AWS Lambda, and AWS Step Functions to build a flexible data model that delivers unmatched insights into cloud cost. Our engineering teams are small, collaborative, and run on Kanban flow. Together, we design, build, validate, and maintain high-impact, customer-facing features. If you’re excited by large-scale container data challenges and enjoy working cross-functionally, this role is for you.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years building and maintaining complex backend systems in cloud environments.
  • Experience working with large-scale data systems and pipelines.
  • Familiarity with the Kubernetes ecosystem (Helm, kubectl, Prometheus), and ideally the Kubernetes API or internal tooling.
  • Comfortable working in Python - our primary backend language.
  • Comfortable working in Go - the language our Kubernetes agent is written in.
  • Strong SQL skills, experience with Snowflake is a plus.
  • Pragmatic systems thinker who applies design patterns effectively.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience partnering across product, engineering, and design teams.
  • Please note: CloudZero is unable to sponsor employment visas. Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience building low-level systems on Kubernetes (e.g., DaemonSets, sidecars, custom controllers/operators).

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems focused on Kubernetes observability and cost data ingestion.
  • Build scalable solutions to support customers running large, complex containerized workloads across clusters.
  • Write clean, maintainable code with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver features that provide actionable insights for Kubernetes users.
  • Continuously improve our platform and engineering practices to enable fast iteration, high team ownership, and impactful product delivery.
