Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is hiring a Software Engineer II. We are leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. The Azure SQL Experiences and Tools team is a critical part of the success of Azure SQL and provides user experiences from desktop to cloud including Azure and Microsoft Fabric. Amongst these, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) is a flagship product that millions of database developers and administrators use every day to work with data across the Azure Data stack such as SQL Server, SQL IaaS, Azure SQL Database including relational and non-relational data. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience working on commercially shipping software projects
  • Problem-solving skills and experience with C#, .Net and Windows applications.
  • Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL DB is also a plus.

Responsibilities

  • As a software engineer on the SQL Server Tools team, you will work on features and improvements in our SQL Server Management Studio.
  • You will get an opportunity to partner closely with engineers and product from other teams including those working on the core SQL engine.
  • The diverse capabilities of SQL Server and Azure Data services provide members on the tools team a wide array of technologies to work with.
  • While most engineering is done in C# there are opportunities to work on other languages and platforms as well.
  • Design and implement capabilities that will address the key needs of customers and align with improvements in SQL Server on-premises and in Azure.
  • Contribute to technical direction and strategic planning for product development, feature enhancement, and innovation in alignment with the business objectives.
  • Conduct code reviews and help shape and steer the team coding guidelines.
