About The Position

If you’re a software engineering leader who is looking to lead a team changing
the rules for relational databases, we have one of the most senior teams in AWS
- and our senior engineers are eager to brainstorm, mentor, and get software
built together. We build software, we patent new things, and we attend
conferences around the world to learn even more.

Amazon RDS PostgreSQL is a dynamic area of innovation for AWS, built on one of
the cleanest code bases in the open source community. We are currently located
across San Joes, Seattle and Toronto. Not only do we have deep database and
systems programming problems to solve for our customers, but we also minimize
the effort required to maintain SQL databases by automating administrative tasks
like backup/restore, scaling CPU/RAM/ storage and replication/failover for high
availability, allowing our customers to spend their valuable time focused on
building their businesses.

We have challenging problems to solve in distributed systems, concurrency,
database internals, caching, query optimization, languages and performance

To apply for this role, you should possess solid analytical, design and problem
diagnosis skills. Expertise with high-performance systems or service design is a
plus. You should be comfortable hiring and building your team, mentoring junior

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• 3+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
• 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++ experience
• 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
• 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Nice To Haves

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
