About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. We are seeking a mid-career (L3) Software Engineer to join the Lunar Apps team. Our team is responsible for developing innovative products that accelerate aerospace engineering and push the boundaries of what can be achieved with engineers collaborating across complex systems. As a Level 3 Software Engineer, your expertise and technical contributions will directly influence the creation of tools which change how Lunar Permanence stores, analyzes, and utilizes Systems Engineering data. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Requirements

  • 4 or more years of experience developing and delivering data-driven software products, web-based applications and backend infrastructures.
  • Proficiency with the following front-end technologies: ReactJS, TypeScript, GraphQL.
  • Proficiency with the following back-end technologies: FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Pandas, NumPy, etc.
  • Proficiency with deployment and productivity tools such as Git, Gitlab, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and Artifactory.
  • Proficiency in post-deployment monitoring tools such as DataDog and PagerDuty.
  • Experience writing unit, integration, end-to-end, acceptance, and regression tests.
  • Demonstrable experience building complex features and architectures from scratch.
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with and communicate complex systems.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS in computer science, information science, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Systems Engineering, and/or aerospace engineering analysis.
  • Demonstrable understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design and domain-driven design.
  • Experience implementing Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC) and security methodologies for software deployment in distributed environments.
  • Experience developing ETL pipelines and/or ingesting and manipulating data from a wide variety of sources, APIs, SQL/NoSQL databases, files, or streams.
  • Experience deploying software to AWS services such as RDS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3 using Terraform or similar infrastructure as code technologies.
  • We prefer candidates located within commuting distance to our Denver, CO or Renton, WA offices.

Responsibilities

  • Write and contribute high-quality code to the product code base.
  • Coordinate with the Product Manager to refine user stories into high-value features and technical tasks.
  • Maintain technical documentation, requirements, design documents, and API references.
  • Chaperone AI usage to ensure high-quality code and architecture are implemented within Lunar software products.
  • Mentor software engineers in a team setting, architecture, design, and code review.
