About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network, aiming to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks, including households, schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. The team is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer with AWS tools and services exposure to architect advanced test infrastructure. This role is crucial for developing core infrastructure and tools that will serve as the backbone for automated satellite testing operations, enabling rapid scaling of manufacturing processes. As an Amazon Leo Software Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and testing of software for Amazon Leo integrated vehicle test venues. You will collaborate with engineering teams across ground and space systems to create an integrated solution for testing fully assembled satellite vehicles, ensuring their readiness for launch operations. A key focus will be on driving automation and optimization of test processes, data pipelines, and test analysis.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Experience building data pipelines or automated ETL processes

Responsibilities

  • Understand functional principles of Amazon Leo satellite hardware, software and all backend services that enable the operation of our constellation.
  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to the definition, development and implementation of test solutions for integrated satellite hardware and software in an ambiguous and complex problem space.
  • Build software solutions to manage infrastructure needed to operate our system in development and production environments.
  • Build software solutions to manage infrastructure needed to operate our system at large scale.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to define and implement system architectures for integrated test venues.
  • Lead technical roadmap definition efforts and decide what features and performance improvements to build.
  • Design and develop complex test sequences that coordinate and synchronize equipment and services across multiple layers to verify function and performance of satellite hardware and software.
  • Instill best practices for software development documentation, making sure designs meet requirements, delivering high quality software on tight schedules.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines and data catalogs.
