Position Summary F5 is seeking a skilled Software Engineer III to contribute to the delivery of F5's AI Gateway and its integrations across F5's existing hardware, software, and hybrid offerings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, curiosity to explore new domains, and the ability to design and build reliable, scalable systems in a collaborative environment. This role involves working on distributed systems and hybrid deployment models while balancing tradeoffs between monolithic and microservice architectures. The engineer will work closely with senior technical staff and architects to implement systems that can be consumed across a range of new and legacy platforms.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in the Go programming language.
- Experience with containerization and cloud-native deployment practices.
- Solid understanding of operating system fundamentals, Linux networking, and load balancing concepts.
- Experience building, testing, and debugging distributed systems.
- Familiarity with API design and consumption using HTTP and gRPC.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics in business terms.
- Comfort working asynchronously in a globally distributed team.
- Typically 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, maintainable, and scalable software.
- Strong understanding of software engineering practices, including testing, security, and continuous delivery.
- Experience supporting or deploying production systems with high reliability and performance expectations.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Python, Rust, or WebAssembly.
- Exposure to AI/ML technologies (e.g., NLP, LLMs).
- Working knowledge of databases, both relational and modern NoSQL systems.
- Familiarity with hardware acceleration technologies (SmartNICs, DPUs, GPUs, FPGAs).
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test components of large-scale distributed systems.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and other engineers to define and deliver features.
- Develop software components primarily in Go, with flexibility to use other languages as needed.
- Write and maintain technical documentation for internal developers.
- Participate in design and code reviews, ensuring adherence to quality and performance standards.
- Partner with project managers to estimate tasks, assess risks, and discuss tradeoffs in scope and timeline.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of CI/CD, testing, and observability practices.
