About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a Software Developer to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Accuracy, integrity, subject matter expertise, and the ability to work well independently and with others are important traits we expect the successful candidate to possess and demonstrate. This position is at Maritime Plaza II in Washington, DC. This hybrid position has mandatory in office collaboration days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and a third day each week as discussed with your manager. As a member of the Software Solutions Team, you will develop and maintain software solutions that meet the needs of our clients. In this role you will: Ensure the quality and reliability of our software products through rigorous testing Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements then design and develop software solutions that meet business needs and project specifications. Develop clean written code that is efficient and well-documented Thoroughly test the developed software to ensure reliability, stability, and security Collaborate with other team members through code reviews to maintain code quality and ensure adherence to best practices Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and issues Stay up to date with industry trends and incorporate new tools and technologies to improve the development process Contribute to the overall success of the development team by actively participating in meetings, providing input, and sharing knowledge About BAE Systems and the U.S. Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program’s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation’s nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy. Requirements

  • Working at Maritime Plaza II, Washington, DC (Tuesday, Wednesday, and one other day)
  • An active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War (DoW) Top Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent position related work experience
  • Ability to meet the requirements for an IAT II certification as specified in the DoD 8570
  • Or, have a SECNAV 5239 qualifying degree AND the ability to meet the requirements for an IAT II as specified in the DoD 8570 within 6 months of start date
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Common Access Card (CAC), badge access to the customer’s facility, and a SSP network account in good standing.
  • Hands-on experience programming in Java, C++, C#, ASP.NET, Python, SQL, with a strong understanding of OOP principles
  • Experience working with jQuery, Bootstrap, and JavaScript
  • Develop and maintain software solutions
  • Provides patches and upgrades to existing systems
  • Document and record every aspect of an application or software
  • Plan, track and schedule software deliverables
  • Locate and direct solutions for critical challenges involving software and hardware interface
  • Look for problems within software systems and resolve the issues
  • Experience working with SOAP and RESTful Web Services
  • Proficient with Apache Struts and Hibernate frameworks
  • Experience working with Apache Tomcat application Server and IIS Web Server
  • Familiarity with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Experience working with version control systems like SVN, GIT
  • Familiarity with Eclipse and Visual Studio IDE
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to interact and effectively present information to peers, management, and customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partners and government officials
  • Ability to develop a deep understanding of software development, troubleshooting skills, excellent communication skills, and a keen eye for detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent position related work experience
  • Familiarity with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides and Security Requirements of DoW IT Systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Good writing skills to document procedures, create reports, and reply to correspondence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with colleagues, auditors, customers, and vendors
  • Experience working in a hybrid military-civilian military environment
