Monmouth University is seeking applications for a part-time, temporary Software Developer in the Urban Coast Institute. This is a temporary, grant-funded project, is in conjunction with the Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University, to modernize and add advanced features to the MARCO Ocean Maps Android app. The successful candidate duties will entail completing new enhancements to the app and to publish in Google Play app store, train new students in the code base, test and maintain the app. This is a hybrid position, anticipated to be 50% working on campus and 50% working remotely. In addition to the application, candidates should upload the following: Resume or Curriculum Vitae Optional Documents: Cover Letter Professional References Responsibilities and Duties: Enhance MARCO app (Android version) to Material 3 and Jetpack Compose, use the latest ArcGIS Esri maps DSK, get the app ready for testing by MARCO staff and partners, and publish in Google Play Store. Train new students to maintain tech, publish in Google Play Store. Make the following enhancements and others TBD: Update the current app to use latest MARCO API services. Migrate from ArcGIS Android Kotlin Activity SDK to Jetpack Compose SDK. Redesign and implement app in Kotlin Jetpack Compose. Changes map legends and layer presentation. Ability to cache maps locally to continue viewing when out of cell range. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline. Experience in designing and developing Android app using Kotlin, Material UI, Jetpack Compose, Android frameworks, current ArcGIS Mapping software SDK, and REST API services. Experience in publishing Android apps in Google Play store and understand the build settings for various Android devices and Operating System versions. Must have developed production quality Android app using Kotlin and Jetpack with integration with ArcGIS SDK mapping services and published in App Store.
