About The Position

We are seeking a Software Developer to provide hands-on application development and operational support for legacy systems, mission-critical applications, and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) platforms that enable Center and Division operations. Working under the technical guidance of the Senior Architect, this role blends operations and maintenance (O&M), application enhancement, and modernization support. The developer ensures system stability, resolves defects, implements enhancements, and maintains security and compliance across supported applications. The position also contributes to cloud alignment and modernization initiatives within approved Azure environments, ensuring all development aligns with enterprise architecture and standards. This is a hybrid remote role based in Atlanta, Georgia. Candidates who currently reside in the Atlanta, GA area will be given preference.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as software developer or similar role supporting production applications with secure coding practices.
  • Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, .NET, and application server technologies such as Tomcat.
  • Experience developing and optimizing SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
  • Hands-on experience supporting production applications, troubleshooting issues, and resolving defects.
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices, vulnerability remediation, and compliance standards.
  • Experience working with or supporting COTS platforms.
  • Understanding of cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure (IaaS and PaaS).
  • Ability to work in a hybrid O&M and development environment with shifting priorities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work under technical guidance and contribute to team-wide initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with application modernization or cloud migration projects.
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and development standards.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, or automated deployment tools.
  • Experience supporting scientific, research, or laboratory information systems (e.g., eLabNext, FreezerWorks).

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, enhances, and modernizes legacy and mission-critical applications using Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, .NET, Tomcat, and related technologies.
  • Develops application code, database queries, stored procedures, and views to support operational and business needs.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and performed defect resolution across application, integration, and database layers.
  • Assists in designing, building, and deploying new and existing IT solutions in alignment with enterprise architecture and development standards.
  • Configures, integrates, and supports COTS platforms such as eLabNext and FreezerWorks.
  • Supports Azure IaaS and PaaS environments, including SSL certificate management, environment configuration, and cloud service troubleshooting.
  • Performs vulnerability verification, remediation, and secure coding implementation across Center applications to maintain compliance with security requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Architect and Lead Architect on modernization initiatives and other duties as assigned.
