About The Position

GDIT has an opportunity for a Software Developer with strong skills and hands-on experience in full stack development. Your contributions will be vital to providing a high-quality user experience to our customers. In your role as the Software Developer, you will work within our agile team to support the development of a tech refresh of mission critical software. You will be responsible with development that is primarily migrating existing parts of our application from Grails to Python based Django. Experience with software tech refresh and maintenance efforts is strongly preferred. In the Software Developer role you will have the opportunity to gain experience in multiple areas and work closely with a high functioning, motivated team. You will be required to be a quick learner who can readily adapt to new technologies and rapidly changing requirements. The Mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veteran Benefits Administration (VBA) is to provide benefits to our Veterans that they have earned through military service. Under VBA, the Office of Business Integration (OBI) is tasked with improving, simplifying and accelerating delivery of benefits to our Veterans. In meeting these goals, OBI strives to acquire managed service solutions that are effective and use efficient Information Technology (IT) to achieve desired VBA results. Your contributions as a Software Developer will be vital to providing a positive, high-quality benefits delivery to our nation’s veterans. As the Software Developer, you will: Assist with the development and implementation and modernization of an existing platform consistent with enterprise architecture reference standards. Work closely with the technical team and leadership to actively identify and log technical issues or risks associated with a project, escalating them, as appropriate, and possibly support the implementation of mitigation strategies for risk prevention and timely resolution. You will have the opportunity to contribute on an individual basis as well as demonstrate your strengths as a team player.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software development experience as described below:
  • Must have Java development experience with demonstrated skills in integration patterns, frameworks, and N-tier service-layer platforms.
  • Must have a good understanding of Java/Grails and Python
  • Experience in full stack development
  • Experience with the GitHub code repository
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies and developing software using Java and relational databases
  • Enthusiasm for learning and results oriented in a team environment
  • Solid verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively even when not interacting face-to-face
  • Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions
  • Interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude.
  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to obtain a VA Public Trust Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Django
  • Experience with diagnosing exception stack-traces and examining application log files
  • Experience working with business partners of varying levels to understand, expand, and gather system requirements
  • Knowledge of Grails to incorporate new technologies into the application platform.
  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs and/or Veteran status highly desired
