About The Position

The Homeland Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Software Developer Intern to support the DHS FLETC mission during the Summer 2026 internship period (June through August 2026). This is an exciting opportunity for a student to apply technical knowledge in support of mission-focused software development activities. The selected candidate will contribute to minor software enhancements, support documentation updates in Atlassian Confluence, and work within an Agile development team alongside senior developers. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, able to work independently, and eager to learn in a collaborative technical environment. Primary Responsibilities Support minor software enhancements, bug fixes, and maintenance activities for mission-related applications Work collaboratively with senior developers and other team members in an Agile development environment Participate in Agile ceremonies such as team meetings, sprint planning, and status discussions, as appropriate Update and maintain system and technical documentation using Atlassian Confluence Assist with software testing, troubleshooting, and validation of implemented changes Use established team processes and development standards to complete assigned work Track assigned tasks and work progress through team tools and workflows Communicate status, issues, and recommendations clearly with technical team members Complete assigned tasks independently while seeking guidance when needed

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • Basic knowledge of software development principles, programming concepts, and the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and development processes
  • Ability to support a full-time summer internship from June through August 2026
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript
  • Exposure to or familiarity with Agile software development methodologies
  • Experience using Atlassian Confluence to update or maintain technical documentation
  • Experience using JIRA or similar tools to track tasks, user stories, and development progress
  • Academic, internship, or personal project experience in a software development environment
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, learn quickly, and contribute effectively in a team setting
