About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, including data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The team supports continuous innovation for customers by working on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain. This role involves joining a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Collaboration across AWS is key to delivering high standards for safety and security while providing scalable capacity at the lowest possible cost. The team enables customers to easily author and associate firewall policies to protect web applications from attacks. This is achieved by configuring rules that allow, block, monitor, or CAPTCHA web requests based on defined conditions such as IP addresses, HTTP headers, HTTP body, URI strings, SQL injection, and cross-site scripting. AWS WAF integrates with CloudFront, Application Load Balancer, API Gateway, and AppSync, supporting various deployment models including cloud-native, on-premise, and hybrid cloud. The team builds a highly available, low-latency distributed system that allows customers to propagate changes worldwide in minutes to respond to active attacks in real-time. The service is fully integrated with other AWS Services like CloudWatch and Sampled Web Requests for visibility, AWS Firehose for full WAF logs, AWS Config for tracking historical changes, and CloudFormation for automating deployments. Engineers on this team solve complex computer science problems, including building highly available distributed micro-services, achieving global scaling across AWS Regions and CloudFront edge locations, and processing millions of requests with single-digit millisecond latency. The successful candidate will play a lead role, influencing the design, development, build, deployment, and support of AWS WAF. This requires researching, innovating, and creating unique solutions without precedent. The role spans from inception to deployment, involving interaction with customers, gathering requirements, designing, implementing, testing, and operationally supporting the product. The individual is expected to leverage their technical background to significantly impact the direction of AWS WAF and future services.
