As a Software & Controls Engineer (Building Automation), you’ll design, implement, and support building automation, energy management, and security systems that meet client scope, budget, and schedule. This mid-level role blends controls engineering, software development, and project delivery to ensure reliable, efficient, and customer-approved systems across our Facilities Automation portfolio. This is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two from home

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 4–7 years in building automation/controls or related MEP projects, including hands-on programming and integration.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in BAS/EMS programming, controller configuration, network setup, and open protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Lon). Knowledge of HVAC systems and energy management.
  • Project Management: Ability to plan, sequence, and manage materials, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal skills; customer-focused with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications (Preferred): LEED AP, PMP, PE, CEM, or manufacturer-specific controls certifications.
  • Work Environment: Comfortable working on active construction sites and traveling as needed.

Responsibilities

  • System Design & Development: Create controller software, configure BAS/EMS/security systems, design system architectures, and develop intuitive operator graphics and dashboards.
  • Integration & Commissioning: Implement sequences of operation, integrate third-party systems (HVAC, lighting, power, access control), and support installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Project Delivery: Prepare quotes, drawings, and documentation; manage scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
  • Stakeholder Support: Provide technical assistance, resolve field issues, deliver training, and communicate project status.
  • Continuous Improvement: Apply value engineering, standardize templates, and drive process improvements for reliability and performance.
