About The Position

As a Social Worker at Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, Wisconsin, you will become a member of our dynamic medical social work team who provides case management and therapeutic bedside interventions. Under the supervision of a social worker who meets state required standards, you will be responsible for conducting diagnostic assessment, determining clinical interventions, facilitating crisis intervention and psychotherapy. Addition responsibilities include: Providing education for patients and their families. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems. Participating in the development and implementation of the treatment/transition plan. Serving as a resource to other staff within the section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • BSW or MSW degree
  • Licensure by applicable state requirements
  • Certified as a bachelor's Level Social Worker or Certification at the Certified Advanced Practice (CAPSW) or Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW) level by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services is required.
  • CAPSW personnel who have achieved two years of supervised social work practice, by a supervisor who has met board requirements, may apply for certification as a CISW.
  • CAPSW or CISW personnel, following 3,000 hours of clinical social work practice including at least 1,000 hours of face-to-face contact supervised by a person meeting board requirements, may apply for licensure at the LCSW level.
  • Valid driver's license required for specific areas.
  • Advanced knowledge of categories in mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of psychiatric treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Knowledge in adjustment to medical diagnosis and chronic disease.
  • Strong human relation skills are needed to interact with patients, patient's family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources.
  • Psychosocial diagnostic skills.

  • Internal candidates must also attach their three most recent performance appraisals.
  • Internal candidates who have not met their current department's 1- or 2-year commitment, must attach an early release from their current supervisor.
  • A detailed equivalency evaluation is required, demonstrating a U.S. equivalent degree. Evaluation must be completed by an organization listed as a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) (www.naces.org) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) (www.aice-eval.org).
