Social Worker - MSW / LSW Location: Methodist Hospital Shift: Full-Time Days (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM) with limited on-call responsibilities Join Our Dedicated Behavioral Health and Social Work Team! Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital is seeking a compassionate and experienced Master's Level Social Worker (MSW) with a permanent LSW license (or LCSW preferred but will consider LSW) to provide vital psychosocial support, crisis intervention, and discharge planning. This role involves face-to-face interactions with patients and families, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and engagement with community and protective services. Position Overview: The Social Worker will: Meet face-to-face with patients and families to assess psychosocial needs and provide counseling Collaborate with healthcare team members to facilitate safe, timely, and effective care and discharge planning Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, serving as a role model for caring practices Assess psychosocial risk factors by evaluating prior functioning, support systems, reactions to illness, and coping mechanisms Counsel patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of health conditions or disabilities Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence Act as liaison with Indiana University Health and local protective services (APS/DCS) Provide crisis intervention, including de-escalation, to manage dangerous or potentially dangerous situations Support complex discharge planning and coordination of care transitions Provide specialized mental health services, including crisis and addiction assessments, and make psychiatric or community resource referrals Support and lead interventions in guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements Utilize principles of interviewing victims, perpetrators, families, and significant others to gather essential information Qualifications & Requirements: Education: Master's Degree in Social Work required. Licensure: Permanent Indiana license as an LSW required. Preferred: LCSW is preferred but not mandatory. Certifications: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or alternative de-escalation training required within 6 months of hire. Experience: Relevant experience in healthcare, mental health, or community services preferred. Skills & Knowledge: Evidence-based psychosocial assessment, short-term therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention Knowledge of disease processes and human behavior relative to social needs Complex discharge planning skills for safe patient transfers Legal knowledge of protective service mandates (child and adult) Principles of growth, development, and end-of-life care Ability to identify decision-makers and lead goals of care conversations Experience adapting services for diverse populations across geography, culture, and finances Strong relationships with hospital staff, law enforcement, APS/DCS, schools, probation, and community organizations Computer literacy and proficiency in EMR documentation Why Join IU Health?
