About The Position

Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. We believe that total patient care must emphasize the physical, emotional, and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities. The social worker in this role will function as an Employee Assistance Counselor (EAC) in the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) of Mount Sinai Health System. The EAC will be deployed to the Mount Sinai Morningside (MSM) campus and will include a hybrid model of on-site and remote work. The EAC will assist the Program Director with program operations and all aspects of Employee Assistance (EA) service delivery. This includes EA critical incident response, consultation services, and the provision of short-term counseling services to health system faculty, staff, and immediate family members. The EAC will also provide broadly focused training programs to diverse stakeholder groups (i.e., managers, supervisors, and union reps). They will accommodate flexible staff schedules and office assignments in response to urgent/emergent situations. The EAC will provide the Director timely feedback regarding organizational issues, situations, and trends. They will be expected to participate in the EAP's student education program. The EAC serves as a member of the interdisciplinary organizational team. They will collaborate closely with the Employee Health Service (EHS), Labor Relations (LR), Nursing and Security to address and resolve a range of complex Human Resource (HR) issues. In summary, the EAC functions at the intersection of human resources, job/personal performance, and behavioral health.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated capacity for critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Organizational and clinical knowledge relevant to the resolution of complex workplace problems.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and best practices in the areas of behavioral health counseling, critical incident response, behavioral risk assessment, wellness, and work/family life balance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Minimum one year in current position.

Responsibilities

  • NYS LMSW or LCSW.
  • Provide short term problem focused counseling and referral services to faculty, staff, and immediate family members for a range of personal issues including, marital, family, behavioral health, stress management, substance use and other personal concerns.
  • Conduct individual assessments. This includes record reviews, collateral contacts, and consultations with other professionals.
  • Formulate service plans including appropriate referrals for evaluation and treatment.
  • Refer clients to other services as needed for medical evaluation, treatment and/or needed social services.
  • Develop internal and external resources with service providers available to assist clients with various behavioral health concerns.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with appropriate care providers.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with key organizational stakeholders.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety management plans.
  • Assume operational responsibility for EA colleagues during episodes of PTO, FMLA, MLOA and other absences.
  • Develop and provide educational/training programs regarding EA services.
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials regarding the program's goals and objectives to increase visibility and utilization.
  • Prepare and maintain confidential case records and reports.
  • Participate in the graduate education program.
  • Recommend suggestions to assure optimal service delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
