Situated on a tree-studded, 165-acre oasis, Cuyamaca College is among the most picturesque campuses in beautiful San Diego County. We are looking for an instructor who can improve the social work program, create social work curriculum, and develop cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Faculty participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs and activities that will facilitate learning, support the college curriculum, and participate in campus and district professional activities, including committee membership, staff development, and collegial meetings. Faculty are expected to perform other duties consistent with those stated in the faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract . Please note: In addition to the minimum qualifications below, we enthusiastically welcome candidates with a master's degree in social work regardless of undergraduate degree to apply using the equivalency determination form in addition to all other application materials. Requirements

  • Applicants must meet one of the following criteria : Master’s in sociology OR Bachelor’s in sociology AND Master’s in anthropology, any ethnic studies, social work or psychology OR the equivalent
  • Applicants must demonstrate sensitivity to, and an understanding of, the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds including those who are differently abled, and the diverse gender identity/sexual orientations of students.
  • Experience teaching a comprehensive Social Work curriculum.
  • The ability to design and teach curricula responsive to the needs and interests of historically underrepresented students.
  • The ability to work effectively with and mentor historically underrepresented and first-generation college students.
  • The ability to teach effectively using multi-modal approaches (including teaching online and in-person) and equity-minded, student-centered practices.
  • The ability to collaborate with faculty and/or community leaders in programs and initiatives such as Puente and Umoja that are specifically designed to help historically underrepresented students achieve their educational goals.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to remaining current in the discipline of Social Work.
  • The ability to work closely and collaboratively with students and colleagues in support of a positive, productive, and professional academic environment.
  • The commitment and ability to actively participate in the college community (e.g., departmental and campus events, shared governance, committee participation).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to manage student internship placements and maintain relationships with internship sites.
  • The ability to contribute to the mission and strategic plan of the college.
  • The ability to take a leadership role in the growth and development of the Social Work program, including grant management in collaboration with the Department Chair and Dean’s office.
  • Experience or willingness to teach online or hybrid classes in addition to in-person courses.
