About The Position

The Tahirih Justice Center is seeking social services intern in our Atlanta office to assist with our work empowering immigrant survivors of gender-based violence seeking justice. This role will require a high degree of emotional intelligence and knowledge of trauma to provide our clients and service seekers with holistic, trauma-informed support. This role will be in the Social Services Department and will be supervised by the Senior Social Services Advocate. The selected intern will undergo trauma-informed training and will be provided with ongoing supervision and mentorship by staff. This position is remote, and interns will have an opportunity to gain advocacy experience in a hybrid setting.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with survivors of trauma
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of creativity and perseverance in identifying solutions
  • Familiarity with issues impacting immigrant communities in Georgia
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred advanced fluency in written and oral Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Assist case manager with conducting needs assessments, supporting individual client case plans, providing safety planning and supportive counseling as needed, connecting clients with appropriate resources and referrals, and writing advocacy letters to help clients gain access to services.
  • Based on clients’ needs, research and identify free or low-cost resources and referrals for services such as medical and mental health, housing, financial assistance and public benefits, transportation, employment advocacy and other assistance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of all activities with clients in an organizational database.
  • Research and help document social services best practices to improve programmatic policies and procedures.
