About The Position

The Social Media Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the social media presence for WVU Tech, across several platforms with the intent to create deep engagement with current high school students and grow each social media account. To do this effectively, they must balance a high level of writing, content creation, photography, video, graphic design, and editing with a knowledge of social media monitoring, posting and creating high engagement on a variety of platforms. The Social Media Manager will produce high-quality social media posts and campaigns to support University-wide and Campus-specific goals. The Social Media Manager is comfortable managing various social media platforms and audiences, including prospective and current students, faculty/staff, alumni, parents, donors and community members. This experienced social media content creator develops posts and campaigns for marketing and public relations efforts, among others, to help advance WVU Tech’s enrollment growth goals and image to prospective students. The University turns to the Social Media Manager to manage University-wide social media platforms daily, which could mean daily developing copy, taking photographs, shooting/editing video and more. Other duties may include: managing a student social media group, overseeing daily work of student volunteers, creating advertising copy, leading project groups, public speaking, working with campus communicators, engaging with the university and local community and more. The Social Media Manager will work collaboratively with the entire Strategic Communications & Marketing team on social media, help managing creative content, and editing updates to the campus web properties.

Requirements

  • BS/ BA Degree highly preferred, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or similar.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the following:
  • Must have related experience in social media or marketing.
  • Proven track record of managing and growing social media audiences.
  • Writing and content/ advertising creation
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
  • Capable of working independently, producing reliable, high-quality content with minimal supervision or editing.
  • Capable of working collaboratively on projects, engaging other Strategic Communications & Marketing team members, media partners, University units and/or schools and colleges.
  • Collaborate with team members, taking directions from and/or assisting others in creating the final product.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish credibility and work effectively with Strategic Communications & Marketing team, key communicators across the University, faculty and senior administration officials and other external resources.
  • Responsible for editing your own work, the work of others, and receiving feedback from the team on your own work.
  • Demonstrate an ability to understand complex subjects, as well as an ability to be sensitive to various goals that may be present in working in a large, decentralized organization.
  • Able to provide advice, counsel, best practices, and strategic thinking about effective communication and targeted messaging.
  • Brings a high level of content creation and messaging talent to the Strategic Communications & Marketing team.
  • Solid background built on years of experience creating content on social media for a variety of purposes and organizations.
  • Capable of recording video, taking photographs, writing articles, and creating simple graphics.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, create and manage promotions and social advertising campaigns

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with video editing, photo editing, creative asset management, and social management platforms are required; experience with Adobe Creative Suite or biddable media is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and create compelling and persuasive content, making WVU Tech a more attractive choice for higher education, primarily targeting high school students, across numerous social media platforms.
  • Identify ways to build WVU Tech's visibility and enhance its reputation through innovative use of social media platforms.
  • Develop and execute social media goals, campaigns and projects that align with department, division, unit and University goals.
  • Handle daily posting/management/engagement on University Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and other emerging platforms as identified.
  • Maintain and develop a master content calendar for social, influencing all other WVU Tech web properties.
  • Create regularly re-occurring content franchises that maintain consistency in content and delivery schedule to set reader expectations.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for campus (UR) social media to gauge success.
  • Design, create and manage promotions and social advertising campaigns.
  • Record videos, take photos, and produce graphical images to be featured on university social properties.
  • Collaborate with videographers, photographers, designers, writers, editors and others to deliver superb content for social and web.
  • Showcase and celebrate students, athletes, faculty, programs, clubs, activities and teams.
  • Provide advice, counsel and strategic thinking about effective communication.
  • Share social media best practices with department/faculty, and unit leaders as needed.
  • Advise and support social media strategy for Admissions re: content, management and/or engagement choices.
  • Oversee iterations of a social media student group; build a network of content-creators (students, faculty/staff) to contribute to various platforms.
  • Submit social articles/content for consideration in other digital properties as needed.
  • Help create, develop and manage content for Admissions CRM system to grow student enrollment.
  • Assist with any in-person recruiting and admissions events.
  • Provide customer service via social platforms for those with questions/concerns.
  • Help manage the University’s social presence during any crisis, as per the University’s crisis communications plan.
  • Work with Strategic Communications & Marketing Director and Assistant Directors to update social media crisis communications plan periodically.
  • Help update CMS and any other web properties during any crisis, as per the University’s crisis communications plan.
  • Help maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties and are also responsible for editing the work of others.
  • Provide support and updates as needed for the main WVU Tech homepage to ensure that all items are current.
  • Create, develop and manage content through a CMS for WVU Tech’s web presence and serve as first-level editor for web and social content.
  • Work alongside the Director of Strategic Communications & Marketing to prioritize, organize, and manage content and web navigation.
  • Assist in educating others on, and enforcing, branding standards to the Web pages and to other users of the WVU Tech website.
  • Assist Strategic Communications & Marketing and other units with any accessibility or compliance issues.
  • Track and report on requested website metrics as well as any other duties as required.
